Quilter's Stash Box - February 2017
The February Stash Box theme was "Fussy Cutting." If you're new to the concept, a “fussy cut” is a piece of fabric that's been cut so that a specific area of a print is the focus of the cut piece. For example, if working with a floral print design, fussy cutting would allow you to select and emphasize the flower heads or petals in your finished design.
Fabric & Thread
A full yard of Gold Bloom from our partner Hoffman Californial-International Fabrics was included in the February Stash Box. This richly colored fabric includes large flower heads which can be fussy cut. Three coordinating fabrics provide the fabric requirements of the enclosed pattern, Fussy Cut Squared. One-third yard each of a patterned cream, speckled green-to-gold, and a pink batik provide enough material to complete the top of the pattern.
Need more of the Grand Bloom fabric bundles? We have them here.
Thanks to our thread partner Superior Threads, we also included a 600-yard spool of MasterPiece Bisque. Specifically created for piecing, MasterPiece thread creates smooth stitches to avoid adding any bulk to your seams.
Cut Loose Press System
Fussy Cut Squared by Penny Haren is from the Cut Loose Press pattern library. Fussy Cut Squared should require about 2-6 hours.
New subscribers to Quilter's Stash Box always receive the Cut Loose Press divider tab system. (Singe Stash Boxes do not qualify for the tab dividers.) These patterns, a single colorful heavy-stock page, file easily into the dividers so that projects can quickly be identified by:
- Project Type: Quilt, Stitchery, Home, Craft, or Bag
- Fabric Type: Fat Quarter, Square, Strip, and Yardage
- Project Time: Under 2 Hours, 2-6 Hours, and 6+ Hours
Pictured below are some of the Cut Loose Press patterns we've enclosed in previous Stash Boxes.
Of course, subscribers aren't obligated to use their new fabric and thread on each monthly pattern, but we like to package contents that can work together for a cohesive project.
Fussy Cut Ruler
New and experienced “fussy cutters” will enjoy using the enclosed Multi-Size Fussy Cutter by Marti Mitchell. When placed over your printed fabric, the ruler allows you to center the fabric design elements perfectly on your pieces. Marti also sent along a catalog of her products and a coupon worth 20% off any subscriber's order from Marti's website through April 2017.
